CONTRABAND
June 1936 Henry M. Dargan

By Henry Barnard Safford 'O4. Penn Publishing Company, Philadelphia, 1936.

Contraband is a mild thriller containing a young physician-hero, a beautiful nurseheroine, savage smugglers, devoted G-men, and the agreeable romantic complications which such ingredients naturally produce. Although the plot and the characters conform to familiar types, the background, and local color can sustain the reader's interest if it threatens to flag. The scene is laid on the Rhode Island Coast, and Dr. Safford has diversified the detective-mystery and the love-affair with episodes of clamming, crabbing, and fishing.
