SUMMIT CREW OF THREE
June 1936

For the coming summer, the Summit Crew will consist of John Hardham '36, hutmaster, Walter Averill '38, and James Brigden '39. Hardham, varsity skier, who has also been Director of Secretariate for the past school year, has had extensive summer experience on the mountain.

In performing their bit of improvement, the Summit Crew intend to give the house recognition of its greatest, but at that not very serious, need, which is further insulation against the cold and readjustment of the interior toward a cozier atmosphere. Another major task, as planned, will be the repainting of the entire exterior. Interior decoration will comprise the hanging of large photos and travel posters, to be affixed to the scant room walls. A versatile member of the '37 delegation of Cabin and Trail has offered to paint murals on the large walls of the dining room.

In preparation for the summer season, the Summer Trails Crew will assist the Summit Crew in chopping firewood and clearing trails to the top of the mountain for the first two weeks. J. Willcox Brown '37, chairman of the Outing Club, will lead six men whose work will probably center about Moosilauke for the entire summer. Tentatively, their headquarters are the Winter Cabin. One of the crew's most important tasks will be to cut a trail around the Rock Garden on Hell's Highway, in accordance with alumni sentiment, to facilitate skiing there for the non- super-expert. The Carriage Road and Pleiades Trails will be improved, as well as the faster ski trails.

Cabin and Trail has voted for the Dartmouth Outing Club's cooperation with the recently imported Youth Hostels movement. This is indicated by our offering the Moosilauke Winter Cabin as one of the hostels along the White Mountain American Youth Hostels trail. Since the Winter Cabin is so close to the Summit Camp, John Hardham will take charge .of it.

The Summit Camp will open approximately June 20th and close September xst.
