Art Quirk '59 completed a 9-8 record with the Rochester Orioles in the International AAA League. His biggest victory was a no-hitter on July 4 against Syracuse in which he struck out nine men and walked only one.
Also in baseball, Pete Burnside '52 pitched back-to-back shutouts against Boston and Kansas City as Washington moved toward ninth place.
Work on the Nervi-designed field house was temporarily halted late in August by a strike called by the crane operators' union. The union protested the contractor's hiring of a non-union man.
The Dartmouth-Yale game has been selected as the ABC-TV game of the week in the East on November 4. All ABC affiliated stations in the eastern section of the country are expected to carry the game.
For those hoping to hear Dartmouth football games on radio this fall, here is a listing, though not complete, of the radio stations covering the first six games. All Dartmouth home games will be broadcast by WDCR, Hanover, and WLNH, Laconia, N. H. The Brown game will be broadcast by WJAR, Providence, R. I.
WPEN, Philadelphia, is expected to broadcast the Penn game; WNAC, Boston, the Harvard game, and WELI, New Haven, the Yale game. WCBS in New York City will again carry the Ivy League Game of the Week. Games to be covered will be announced week by week.
The new football brochure "Football at Dartmouth 1961," put out by Director of Sports Information Ernie Roberts, reveals some interesting facts concerning Dartmouth football records. Did you know, for instance, that two records set prior to 1927 still stand? In 1919 against Cornell, lames E. Robertson '20 kicked a 55-yard field goal, a mark which has never been equalled.
The longest pass play was made on October 23, 1926 and covered 74 yards. The play went from Eddie "Death" Dooley '26, now Congressman from New York, to Myles Lane '28, now a well-known federal judge. Lane's career record of 48 touchdowns is also unmatched.
Chase Field is taking on a new look these days. Within the last few weeks workmen have built a fence around an area in which Coach Ellie Noyes' trackmen will be throwing the discus and hammer next spring. The new field house encroaches upon the former throwing area located on Memorial field. Lights have also been installed on Chase Field for the benefit of the football team. During the warm weather in early September the customary afternoon practice sessions were postponed until late afternoon or early evening and the powerful lights were turned on.
