LAST APRIL, just before the hotels went on strike for the summer, Northern California Dartmouth took over the Mark Hopkins for a dinner in honor of President Hopkins and Sid Hayward from Hanover. A grand talk by each and a pleasant reunion all around! The count was 74 Dartmouth men and 10 guests. The oldest graduate, Walter V. Hayt '78, journeyed 125 miles from his Olivet Ranch at Lincoln.
You should have seen Ed Shattuck '10, retiring president, do his stuff. He kept all would-be speakers in their seats except one Elmer Robinson '14 who, self invited and unannounced, had come all the way from New York to deliver an oration. Had we only known he was coming we wouldn't have ordered the entertainment.
The steam roller boys, chairman George Stoddard 'lB nominated, elected, and installed the following officers without a "no":
President, Roily Howes '27; Vice President, Outing Club and Sports, Dick Townsend '23; Vice President, Entertainment, Ray Taylor '11; Vice President, DartmouthPromotion, Ritchie Smith '26; Secretary-Treasurer, Abe Winslow '20; AssistantSecretary-Treasurer, Dave Smith '35.
Now for the fall party, football meetings, and ski tournament. Watch for "Squeaks"!
