Gray's name appears in the necrology column. The operation he faced a month ago proved to be more serious than was anticipated, but he appeared to be recovering and was sleeping quietly when he slipped away without wakening.

His daughter writes that he took much pleasure in the message and flowers sent him by the Octogenarian Quartette. Words of warm affection for him are coming from classmates near and far. He was the fifth of our number to leave us within the year.

Bouton is probably the first living greatgrandfather of the class. He announced with joy the arrival, September 4, of Samuel M. Shannon Jr., son of his granddaughter; but now, a month later, his joy is turned to anxiety because the child is in hospital on the danger list.

Bouton and Harlow are back in their homes in Florida and Ohio after their summer sojourn in New England, Bouton with his eye glued to the eyepiece of his telescope in search of variable stars, and Harlow occupied in reading and correspondence with his numerous family and many friends.

Six of the seven members of the class recently heard from hope to attend reunion in June.

Sully has moved his household to another apartment, but is still at the same address, 150 Pinehurst Ave. In the process of moving, which as usual was a sifting process, he came across a letter written him in 1879 by John Cotton Dana, asking his advice and assistance about finding work, and giving data about the more or less haphazard catches several others of the class had made on the tailboard of the wobbling world; which reminds us that the way ahead was not so very much wider open to the fresh graduates of sixty years ago than it is to the much pitied youth of the present day.

Telle Smith saluted as he passed through Boston, October 4, on his way to Maine, and promised to hail again on his return. Here's hoping some of us may make contact with him then.
