Award of the Morrill Allen Gallagher Memorial Scholarship to George T. Kingsbury '3B of Keene, N. H., was announced by President Hopkins on September 24.. Carrying a stipend of f 600, the scholarship is awarded annually to an undergraduate with Rhodes Scholar qualifications.
At the same time President Hopkins announced that the Justin H. Smith Fund Scholarships of $5OO each had been awarded to three members of the senior class: John G. Emerson '3B of Beverly,
Mass.; Harry D. Heyboer '3B of Maplewood, N. J.; and Cyrus L. MacKinnon '3B of Eldorado, Kansas. These scholarships, based upon a fund established by bequest of Justin H. Smith '77, historian and former member of the faculty, are awarded annually to students "distinguished for proficiency in studies, sound morals, and physical health."
Regional scholarships, awarded for a four-year period to outstanding members of the entering class, were announced as follows:
The William Pierce Johnson Scholarships for applicants from California have been awarded to Theodore T. Redington Jr. '4l, of Pasadena, and Lawrence E. Thompson '4l, of San Marino. They have an anrfual value of $7OO each.
The Charles F. Brooker Fund Scholarships of $5OO each for applicants from Connecticut have been awarded to Stewart F. Asimus '4l, of Ansonia; Douglas G. Atwood '4l, of Winsted; Gustave T. Broberg Jr. '4l, of Torrington; Adolphe W. English 2d '4l, of Waterbury; and Howard D. Wheale '4l, of Bridgeport. The Second College Grant Scholarships for applicants from New Hampshire have been awarded to John R. Ahlgren '4l, of Manchester, and Richard A. Sawyer '4l, of Lebanon. They are valued at $5OO each.
The Randolph McNutt Fund Scholarship for an applicant from New York has been awarded to Edward N. Marlette '4l of Buffalo. This scholarship, amounting to $6OO, is awarded each alternate year.
