MANUAL ON RESEARCH AND REPORTS,

by the Committee on Research

of the Amos Tuck School of Administration and Finance, Dartmouth College McGraw-Hill Book Co., Inc., New York. To teachers striving to secure from their students some uniformity and efficiency of method in their research, to students struggling with the problem of preparing "term papers," and to those engaged in research of a more pretentious sort, this little pocketsize manual, one of a growing series of publications under the aegis of the Tuck School, should prove an indispensable tool. Its predecessor, published in 1931, was designed primarily as a guide for research in the fields of business and finance. The scope of this revised edition of about 130 pages has been broadened so that it should prove of equal usefulness in any field of social science.

The manual covers the entire process of preparing reports, beginning with preparation of the plan, covering the gathering, recording and analyzing of the material, preparing the manuscript, checking against error, and seeing the manuscript through the press. Rather than dealing with bibliographies in the separate social scienceswhich would involve a manual in itself—it refers the research student to such manuals, as well as outlining the scope of the Government's publications in these fields.

Research scholars do not need to be convinced of the merits of the manual. It is to be hoped that its use will become a requirement for student research.
