Work on the new upperclass dining hall was resumed immediately after the spring recess and will continue throughout the spring and summer until the building is completed. It is expected that the dining quarters will be ready for use with the opening of the new college year on September 23. On the lot south of Massachusetts Row, the hall will contain two large dining rooms and a number of smaller ones, ac commodating a total of more than 650 men, and will also have a lounge, a rathskeller, and a recreation room.

Other activity in connection with the College plant has included the reseating of the main floor of Webster Hall and some renovation of the first-floor exterior of the Hanover Inn. A total of 902 new seats, of the cushioned type in Dartmouth Hall, have been placed in Webster, and although greater space was allowed between rows, the narrowing of the center aisle and careful rearrangement of the aisles and chairs has resulted in the reduction of the main floor seating capacity by only eight seats. No change was made in the balcony at this time.

At the Inn, the east portion of the porch has been torn away, preparatory to the installation of a large living-room window that will give a broad campus vista toward Baker Library. The porch will be abbreviated so as to uncover the new window; a simple, colonial railing will be placed around the roof of the porch and the portecochere; and in order to brighten the approach to the Inn, the bricks under the present porch will be painted white and the first-floor blinds will be replaced with white paneled shutters.
