The Barrett Cup award for 1937 was made to Donald C. McKinlay '37 of Chicago at the Wet Down ceremonies on May 26. McKinlay, who is secretary-chairman of the senior class, was chosen by the three upper classes of the College as the member of the senior class "giving the greatest promise of becoming a factor in the outside world through his strength of character and qualities of leadership, record of scholarship and broad achievements, and his influence among his fellows."
McKinlay has been president of the Interfraternity Council and vice president of Palaeopitus during the past year. He won his letter in basketball last winter, and is a member of Casque and Gauntlet and Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
Other members of the senior class who were selected by a faculty committee, following undergraduate nominations, as worthy candidates for the Barrett Cup award were: Gordon P. Bennett, Swampscott, Mass.; Rowley Bialla, Northport, N. Y.; William E. Geraghty, Ticonderoga, N. Y.; Joseph W. Kiernan, Washington, D. C.; and T. Latta McCray, Dayton, Ohio.
In token of the Barrett Cup award which was established by the Hon. John Barrett '89, founder of the Pan-American Union, a gold medal was presented to McKinlay at the Wet Down ceremonies. The presentation was made by Prof. John G. Gazley, senior class officer. McKinlay's name, the 24th since the award was first made in 1914, has been engraved on the Barrett Cup which remains in possession of the College.
