Not so much competition from Skinner so far this year—the Alumni Fund is just about getting started as this is being written, but by the time the June issue of the MAGAZINE appears Skinner and his pack of hounds will be in full cry and you will have been deluged by campaigners. You may not know it, but these inimitable news sheets are pecked out by Os generally about 2 A.M. and are rushed over to the post office to catch the last mail leaving New York and getting to Hanover that afternoon. For these dollars that he extracts, sometimes painlessly, sometimes with forceps, Os certainly gives you your money's worth. This year, however, he's going to need plenty of help in maintaining the pace of the past two years—they've changed the rules somewhat for this year's race. Standing is no longer computed by the number of contributions received, it's dollars collected that count. And having no millionaires in the class, so far as I recall, the chances of our getting a few large individual contributions to swell the total are fairly remote. So each of you gentlemen will have to dig a few inches deeper and yank out a couple extra skins apiece, otherwise the good Skinner is very apt to throw a few quivering fits of remorse.
