DR. WILLIAM H. POOLE, Hanover dentist for more than 40 years, died after a brief illness September 16. He was 78 but his appointment book was filled almost up to the time of his death. It was true of him, according to the New England saying, that he died with his boots on.
This was what Doctor Poole would have wanted. His working days were six a week, 10 or more hours a day, with a little while out for lunch of a bottle of milk and a cigar. This was his schedule for 12 months in the year, except for a two-weeks vacation which he didn't enjoy very much because he was "glad to get back to work."
This picture is a familiar one. He would work for a while with his strong hands, and then let the drill and the tooth cool off, lean back on his cabinet, and visit. He was sociable. You always felt he was interested in you as well as your teeth.
Hundreds of Dartmouth men and the Hanover community are sorry that his office door is closed for the long vacation that he earned but never wanted.
