President on Leave
October 1938

IN COMPLIANCE with the action of the Board of Trustees last spring extending to the President the privilege of leave of absence for the present college year, President Hopkins plans to be away from Hanover a considerable portion of the year. His leave will be taken during briefer intervals rather than in one continuous and prolonged absence.

President Hopkins had not definitely formulated his plans when College opened on September 22, but he stated that in the main they would involve freedom from office routine, leaving the executive functions of his position somewhat more largely even than in the past to his associates in administrative posts who have been heretofore so largely responsible for the effective functioning of the College administration. President Hopkins left Hanover shortly after the opening of College for a few days of fishing in Canada, and for the immediate future he plans a stay of two or three weeks at the Maine shore. He will return to Hanover for the fall meeting of the Board of Trustees on October 26 and for the keeping of several academic appointments to which he is committed, and will remain in town for some weeks previous to absence during a part of the winter.
