ROBERT W. EVANS '40 of Waterbury, Conn., died Tuesday, November 15, in the New London, N. H., hospital from injuries received the preceding Saturday night when the car in which he was riding crashed into a tree seven miles north of New London. Gilbert Small Jr. '38, Chemistry instructo who was driving the car, was severely cut when he was thrown through the windshield, but he is expected to recover if infection does not set in. The accident occurred when Small lost control of the car on a sharp curve and skidded broadside into a tree. Three members of the Hanover medical staff went to New London to assist doctors there in efforts to save the lives of the Dartmouth junior and instructor.
Evans, who was 20 years old, was a member of the Dartmouth Band and the Handel Society Symphony Orchestra, and had been on the cross-country squad in his freshman year. He was a member of Gamma Delta Chi fraternity.
