Hanover in January, 1938, is much the same as in other years. The thermometer drops daily to zero or lower, and the pall of fog still lingers in the hollows till noon time. With the present attractive skiing conditions here your correspondent is optimistic over the possibilities for some alumni visitors during the next few months.
The annual meeting of the Thayer Society of Civil Engineers will be held at the Dartmouth Club in New York, January 21. Dean Robert Strong will be the guest speaker for the occasion. The annual election of officers of the society will be held at the same time.
Mr. Otis E. Hovey '89 has recently been accorded the signal honor by the Am. Soc. C. E. of an honorary membership in that organization. The Society honors both Mr. Hovey and itself by this recognition of his outstanding services to the Society and the profession. Mr. Hovey's address has been changed to 11 West 42d St., New York.
John H. Minnich '29 visited the School on January 8. He has now established his own engineering and contracting busi- ness with offices in the Carpenter Hotel Building, 323 Franklin St., Manchester, N. H. Minnich has just completed a bridge contract in Brattleboro, Vt., and was on his way to bid on another at Montpelier, Vt., when he stopped a while in Hanover.
George Collins '35 stopped by long enough on his way home to Littleton at Christmas time to let us know that he is now working for the Corbin Lock Company in New Britain, Conn., as assistant superintendent. George's special job is eliminating waste motion and lost time along the production line. Sort of an efficiency expert, I gather.
