The close of the Easter vacation brings the Thayer School into the home stretch of another year, the ultimate goal being for the first-year men the Bachelor's degree at Commencement in June and for the second-year men the Civil Engineer's degree to be conferred on May 27.
In connection with Commencement, will all you alumni planning to be in Hanover at that time please note the following change in the usual meeting of the Thayer Alumni? This meeting will be held at the Thayer School, Friday evening, June 17, after the President's reception. In the past the meeting has usually been held on Sundayevening.
The employment of the graduating class is still somewhat indefinite. Some of the men are placed, but others are still undecided. The Thayer School frequently receives calls for men for particular jobs, and these requests are of great help in placing these men. If you happen to know of any positions open, a letter to Dean Garran will receive prompt attention.
The annual dinner for the Boston alumni of the T. S. C. E. was held in Boston on March 21. Speakers were Dean Garran and Arthur D. Weston, chief engineer of the Massachusetts State Department of Health. Those attending the meeting were the following:
George A. Hawkins '32, H. S. Hirst '37. A. W. French '92, W. H. Balch '98, P. D. Rising '30, A. W. Laughton, Dartmouth '31, G. A. Sampson '03, G. W. Roberts '31, H. B. Parker '17, H. W. Fitts '03, G. M. Hall '35, W. S. Kelley, Dartmouth '82, L. H. Holway '23, C. R. Main '09.
The March number of the S. P. E. E. "Bulletin" contains an article by Prof. Kimball on the subject of the relationship of the activities of soil mechanics committees of the engineering societies to instruction in soil mechanics. Prof. Kimball speaks of the problem of standardization of various tests in the field of soil mechanics, which is still in a developmental stage.
