Some 400 fathers of Dartmouth freshmen were in town February 18-20 to share in the academic and extracurricular life of their sons as part of the 21st annual Freshman Fathers Weekend. At Friday night's afterdinner program, the speaker on behalf of the fathers was Walter A. Snickenberger '46, director of admissions at Cornell University, whose son Tom '75 was co-captain and quarterback of last fail's freshman football team.

J Some shrinkage in enrollment from term to term is normal, but the drop of 110 undergraduates from fall to winter was much larger than usual. Since very few students flunk out these days, the withdrawals were mostly voluntary, for reasons ranging from finances and family circumstances to travel opportunities and sheer wanderlust. The current draft regulations, relieving students of doubt as to the likelihood of being called, make it easier for students to be non-students for a spell. The majority of the undergraduates now dropping out will return after working or satisfying whatever urge took them off. Undergraduate attrition involved mainly sophomores (44) and juniors (42). Freshman enrollment is down 16.
