With more than 100 class and club representatives in attendance, the 34th annual meeting of the Dartmouth Secretaries Association was held in Hanover over the week-end of May 13 and 14. Business sessions were held in the 1902 Room of Baker Memorial Library on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Owen A. Hoban '99 presided over these and also acted as toastmaster at the Friday night dinner, at which President Hopkins, Sigurd S. Larmon 'l4, Sidney C. Hayward '26, and Carl F. von Pechmann '3B were the speakers. Mr. Hayward made the award for the best class secretary of the year to Harlan C. Pearson '93 of Concord, N. H., and that for the best club secretary to DeLong H. Monahan '24, secretary of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Philadelphia. Both men were unavoidably absent and sets of Leon Burr Richardson's History of Dartmouth College were mailed to them.
Officers of the Association for the coming year were elected Saturday morning as follows: F. William Andres '29 of Boston, president; H. Philip Patey '9B of Newtonville, Mass., vice president; and Sidney C. Hayward '26 of Hanover, secretary-treasurer. Mr. Hayward was reelected editorin-chief of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, and Robert J. Holmes 'O9 of Boston was reelected to his second term of three years as representative of the Secretaries Association on the Alumni Council.
DeLong H. Monahan '24 of Philadelphia and Everett M. Stevens 'Ol of Nashua, N. H., were elected members of the Executive Committee, to serve with the president, vice president and secretary-treasurer. Eugene D. Towler 'l7 of Cranford, N. J., was elected to a three-year term on the advisory board of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.
Speakers at the business sessions of the Association included Warde Wilkins 'l3, William H. McCarter 'l9, Prof. Herbert W. Hill, Prof. Francis J. Neef, Norman Stevenson 'O5, and Sidney C. Hayward '26. The Saturday morning session was given over largely to a discussion of MAGAZINE circulation problems, and at that time the Association went on record as favoring the 100% group-subscription plan, which would send the MAGAZINE to every graduuate and interested non-graduate of the College.
Those in attendance at the meetings, including secretaries or their substitutes, were:
