No wonder dartmouth men want to give tribute at the conclusion of 25 years of notable leadership of the College. When Mr. Hopkins began 40 years ago to emphasize the role of the alumni as a potential force in the life of a college he was a pioneer. With Dr. Tucker those foundations were laid four decades ago that were unprecedented at the time and that have since been adopted by many other institutions. A substantial structure of alumni activity and relationships has been built on those foundations. In fitting the pieces of the structure together President Hopkins has never been far from the job and more often than not he has devised and guided the actual steps in the process.
In this Anniversary year Dartmouth's President is hailed as a great educator and public servant and college administrator. Dartmouth men through record-breaking support of the Alumni Fund are revealing their appreciation of his leadership of the alumni whose affection he holds and for whose thoughtful interest in the College he has genuine respect.
