THE SUM OF $150,000 as a development fund was granted to Dartmouth College by the Carnegie Foundation of New York at the meeting of the Corporation's trustees on November 14. The resolution of appropriation did not define the use of the fund beyond describing it as "a development fund," and President Hopkins has announced that no attempt will be made at present to determine where the money can be applied most advantageously to the educational program of the College. Uses for the fund, which will be turned over to the College in December, will probably be settled by the Dartmouth Board of Trustees at their annual spring meeting.
The Carnegie Corporation of New York, now under the presidency of Frederick P. Keppel, has contributed to the development of the College several times in the past, and has just recently provided a fund of nearly $5OO for purchasing additional phonograph records for the Carnegie Music Set given to Dartmouth a few years ago and now open to the College community in Bartlett Hall. At the time of the construction of Carpenter Hall the Carnegie Corporation contributed approximately $50,000 for the purchase of books for the art library.
