MAURICE S. SHERMAN '94 Editor of The Hartford Courant, whocame to Hanover on the week-end of January 7-8 to serve as chairman of the arbitration committee of three members whichmet and settled the controversial points ofthe Publications Report. The Dartmouth of January p reported that a unanimousand satisfactory settlement had beenreached but that the details of the compromise would not be made public untilMr. Sherman had submitted a report toPresident Hopkins.

LAST SIGHT OF A FAMOUS HANOVER ELM Early in January workmen removed the trunk of the graceful, 140-year old elm whichstood in front of Bartlett Hall until the hurricane of last fall sheared off its crown. Theroots of the tree had wrapped themselves around a huge rock shown in the photograph.
