Dartmouth Night Wires
April 1939

As a traditional feature of the Dart- . mouth Night celebration, Dean Emer- itus Laycock read to the gathering in Webster Hall on March 9 telegraphic greetings from widely scattered clubs and individuals in the alumni body. Greetings reached Hanover from 38 different alumni groups in this country and abroad. Also received were messages from President Hopkins, wintering in Palm Beach, Fla.; from Dr. Arthur H. Ruggles 'O2, trustee of the College and a resident of Providence, R. I.; and from Robert Chase '37, crossing the Pacific from China to California in the Junk "Sea Dragon."

President Hopkins' telegram to Dean Laycock read as follows: "Affectionate greetings and all good wishes to you personally and as master of ceremonies for tonight's Dartmouth party. Speaking in my temporary role as one of the great host of non-resident sons of the College, I share with them the solicitude that Dartmouth shall always be preeminent in everything and a deep-rooted conviction that she is."

In adjoining columns are listed the alumni clubs from which greetings were received, together with the names of the club officers who sent the wires.
