Most fearful of fraternity politics in its elections is Dartmouth's student governing body, Palaeopitus. To further protect itself on this point and also to have organizations more fairly represented in the election, the electoral system was changed. As it now stands it combines the virtues of the ex-officio and popular election systems and mitigates the evils of each. The electoral system follows: This society shall consist of not less than 13 and not more than 16 members, who shall at the time of their election be juniors in good standing; Section 2 Election of members shall be as follows:
The Dartmouth Outing Club as represented by members of Cabin and Trail shall nominate two juniors, one of whom shall be elected by the junior class. One of these two nominees shall be ex-officio, the chairman of the Outing Club Council.
Varsity lettermen whose letters have been ratified by the Athletic Council shall nominate two juniors, one of whom shall be elected by the junior class.
Sophomore, junior and senior managers of athletic teams shall nominate two juniors, one of whom shall be elected by the junior class.
The members of the Interfraternity Council shall nominate two juniors, one of whom shall be elected by the junior class. One of these two nominees shall be, ex-officio, the president of the council.
The business managers of THE DARTMOUTH and Jack o'Lantern shall be nominated ex-officio. Members of the business boards of the Aegis, Pictorial and GreenBook shall together nominate one junior. One of these three juniors shall be elected by the junior class.
The editors of THE DARTMOUTH and Jacko'Lantern shall be nominated ex-offcio. Members of the news boards of the Aegis,Pictorial and Green Book shall together nominate one junior. One of these three juniors shall be elected by the junior class.
The four non-athletic groups inscribed below shall each nominate one junior. One of these four juniors shall be elected by the junior class. The four groups shall be the Milsical Clubs, Band and Players, and nonathletic managers. Those qualified to vote within these groups shall be all members of the Musical Clubs, Band and Players who have received charms, and all athletic managers and assistant managers.
The three non-athletic groups inscribed below shall each nominate one junior. One of these three juniors shall be elected by the junior class. D. C. A., Forensic Union and Round Table, the last two as a single group. Those qualified to vote within these groups shall be all members of the respective governing boards.
Four juniors shall be elected from the class at large.
At the first meeting of Palaeopitus in October the members may elect not more than three men from the senior class, the vote of eight members of Palaeopitus being necessary for election.
In the event that a man may be an ex-officio nominee from more than one organization, he shall be obliged to choose one of these and the organization or organizations thus deprived of ex-officio nominees shall be empowered to select men for the vacant places.
