Better known for his activities in hockey, Junie Merriam is nevertheless the driving force behind the outstanding lacrosse team in the history of the sport at Dartmouth.

No giant in size, Merriam has played against a bigger man in every contest of his varsity career in this roughest of all intercollegiate sports with a daring that has made him the idol of the lacrosse fans.

Merriam as captain has played a more important role than as a star player, however, for he has acted as the hub of the team's remarkable spirit and has contributed his competitive experience as a calming influence whenever the team has been behind—which has been seldom this spring.

Lacrosse experts in the heart of the Maryland district, where the populace eats and sleeps the sport, tabbed Merriam as one of the best competitors they had seen in the ranks of a northern college in their many years of watching the teams drift into the southland for spring training activities.

One of the best liked of all Dartmouth athletes, it is a pleasure to honor Merriam in this small way for his contribution to a higher plane of Dartmouth athletics as promoted by the athletes.
