Anthony Dougal, formerly Assistant Professor of Education and Athletics at the University of New Hampshire, was named in August to succeed Edward Zanfrini as trainer of Big Green teams. Zanfrini returned to Princeton after serving the war years at Dartmouth.

The new Dartmouth trainer had been assistant football coach, varsity hockey and lacrosse coach, and a member of the physical education department for the past eight years at New Hampshire. After graduating from Temple, he served as football, basketball and baseball coach at Smithport (Pa.) High School until 1937 and later was at West Texas State College for two years.

Coach Tuss McLaughry spent several busy days late in August preparing for the opening of Dartmouth football practice and tutoring the Eastern College All-Stars for their game with the New York Giants. He was on hand for the opening call to candidates in Hanover Tuesday, Sept. 2, and flew down to New York for the Wednesday night charity game, Sept. 3. Unfortunately he was unable to repeat an earlier coaching success with an Eastern All-Star eleven as the Giants won decisively, 21-0. Three Dartmouth men on the All-Star squad were Meryll Frost '44, Mo Monahan '4.5 and Art Young '47, starting guard. Johnny Dell Isola, Big Green line coach, was one of Tuss' assistant coaches.
