ALUMNI FUND RECORDS were topple again when the final results of the 1940 campaign were tabulated during the summer. Gifts from 10,136 Dartmouth me gave the Fund its most successful campaign in number and percentage of contributor while total contributions of $126,255 were the second highest in Fund history being surpassed only by the $129,786.50 1929. The 10,136 contributors number 683 more than the record total of last ye and the proportion of givers to graduan of 81% smashed by 2% the mark of or one year's standing. In achieving 110% its cash objective of $115,000, the 19 Fund equalled the mark of the 1925 Fun After the deduction of campaign expenses and the addition of income from the General Fund, $118,496.79 was available to the Dartmouth College Alumni Council for distribution. This sum prevented a College deficit of $96,809.70 for I the fiscal year 1939-40 and also provided $19,187.09 toward the financing of the Dartmouth Hall reconstruction. Under the \ terms of the consolidation of the Robert Fletcher Fund with the Alumni Fund. $2,500 was allocated to Thayer School as a proportion of the gifts of Thayer School I men. The unfinanced balance of the Dartmouth Hall Reconstruction Account now stands at $7,891.18, a total of $114,520.83 from Alumni Funds having been applied
The average contribution to the 1940 Alumni Fund was $ 12.45, compared to $12.14 last year and $12.30 the year before. Eleven classes achieved 100% or better in contributors, compared to nine last year. Led by 1879 with 240%, they included 1901 with 141%, 1900 with 140%, 1878 with 133%, 1898 with 130%, 1887 with 103%, 1918 and 1926 with 101% each, and ; 1877, 1884 and 1928, all with 100%. Classes with better than 90% of contributors were 1904, 1921, 1892, 1905, 1924, 1886, 1889, 1930, 1922, 1899, and 1923.
The number of classes which reached their cash objectives was 39, almost two- thirds of the 64 classes to which objectives were assigned. The Class of 1879 led 111 'his group also, setting the top mark of 2159%. while 1881 followed with the fine record of 1529%. The other classes in order were

Chairman of the 1940 Alumni Fund Committee of the Alumni Council was Sumner B. Emerson '17 of New York City. Albert I. Dickerson '30 again served as Executive Secretary of the Fund, an'd other members of the Committee were Prof. Leon B. Richardson 'OO, Hanover; Edward K. Robinson '04, Boston; Fletcher R. Andrews '16, Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and Harvey P. Hood II '1B, Boston, who has been named chairman for 1941.
