Two VALUABLE COLLECTIONS of first editions of the works of Norman Douglas and, Henry Williamson have recently been given to the College through the Friends of the Dartmouth Library. Richard H. Mandel '26 of New York City, donor of the College's rare Aldous Huxley and H. L. Mencken collections, has given nearly fifty volumes of Douglas, together with numerous letters and several manuscripts. The Williamson collection of 39 volumes has been given by Prof. Herbert F. West '22 of Hanover, whose earlier gifts to the College have included valuable collections of R. B. Cunninghame Graham, Edward Garnett, and Wilfrid Scawen Blunt.
George Matthew Adams of New York City, who last year gave the College its magnificent collection of Joseph Conrad first editions, has recently made a valuable addition to his gift—an extremely rare letter from Stephen Crane to Conrad.
Included in the Norman Douglas collection from Mr. Mandel is a rare first edition of South Wind, the manuscript of Inthe Beginning, several typescripts with corrections by the author, and a bound volume of letters from Douglas to Martin Seeker, his publisher.
Half of the volumes in the Williamson collection have been signed by the author to Professor West. Included is a copy of the first rare Williamson book, BeautifulYears, together with two corrected typescripts and a number of letters to the donor.
