President Hopkins has named GeorgeTheriault secretary of a committee to coordinate in Hanover all activities directly and indirectly related to the war emergency and national defense. Our plan for national defense is to put George in a room with the Nazi leaders and start him talking about slum areas in rural Wisconsin-as he did during the Secretaries Convention last spring in ill-ventilated Room 35. After such a going over we could send Andorra in to finish off the Huns.
The faithful Gene Merkt writes in part as follows "Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lapham will be living at 740 Roanoke Ave., Riverhead, L. I„ after September 15th.
"At the last writing I was with Proctor & Gamble out in St. Louis, but that is past and gone. Along about the end of October finding the soap business not altogether satisfying, I took my departure somewhat regretfully from the Company and from that swell crew of Hanoverians in St. Louis AND pointed the Green Hornet's nose eastward. Once back here I returned to my Oldracket briefly and when the Associated Gas & Electric System toppled into bankruptcy, found myself a member of the staff of the Trustees "

By the time you receive this piece, this great country of ours will, in the most momentous period of its history, have returned to the faith of its fathers or continued headlong on the road to dread totalitarianism. We will be a nation of strong, clear-eyed supermen or a herd of listless, dispirited slaves. But whether it's Nirvana or Limbo, we'll still be at the same old stand waiting to hear and pass on the news that you're second baseman on the Shriner's softball team or third shovel on the labor battalion as the case may be.
