AT THE TOP left is the play in the Sequence after Cornell had reached thesix-yard line, first down, Landsberg, BigRed fullback, is spinning after faking toScholl, halfback, and plunging through thecenter of the Dartmouth line to the threeyard mark.
The next play, shown at top right, advanced the Cornellians to the line. This time Scholl carries on a straightbuck and is swarmed under short of thegoal line by several Dartmouth players.At the center left, Cornell is advancingthe ball to within one foot of the goal lineLandsberg carries on a straight buck, but isstopped on a great tackle by Dartmouth'squarterback, Don Norton, and guard, DmDacey. At this point with the hands of theclock showing but ten seconds remainingin the game, Cornell called time out. Referee Red Friesell paced off five yards fortoo many time outs and Cornell put theball in play on the six-yard line.
On this, the fourth down, Scholl fadesback to throw a pass as shown at the center right. The ball goes over the center of theline to the end zone where Norton, withno Cornell player near him, knocks theball to the ground.
Here Referee Friesell picked up the balland started for the twenty-yard line,changed his mind, turned and came backto the six, despite Captain Lou Youngsprotests on behalf of the Big Green. It wisCornell's ball on the six and another down.
At the lower left, the illegal touchdownpass is shown. Scholl fades to his right,andthrows on the dead run to Bill Murphy,Cornell wingback jumping high in the center of the end zone.
Bob Krieger's field goal from placementis reproduced at the bottom right. AfterTeddy Arico had advanced the ball to theCornell nine on a play through the line,the Big Green elected to try a field goal ontheir fourth down. They were about twoand a half yards shy of a first down.
Center Stub Pearson puts the ball in playon the nine as he passes back to Annkneeling on the ground. Arico places theball down, Krieger's foot swings forwardand the ball goes high and in the middlethrough the goal posts. Cornell's Alva Kelley is the nearest red-shirt to the ball Herushes in from his left end slot, but the be clears his outstretched arms as he jutsfrom about two yards away.
