INCREASED INTEREST in Latin American affairs at Dartmouth this fall is reflected in Spanish electives by 380 men, a total ten per cent higher than last year and 17 per cent higher than two years ago. That many men are beginning the study of Spanish this year is indicated in the total of 188 men in Spanish 1, a figure 25 per cent above the elementary enrollment last year and slightly more than that above the enrollment two years ago.

Language electives by the freshman class this fall give the following interesting totals: French 358, Spanish 205, German 153, Latin 19, Greek 3, Italian 1.

Science electives by freshmen were as follows: Chemistry 226, Geology 162 Botany 80, Zoology 66, Physics 41.free electives gave these totals: Mathematics got, Philosophy 224, Graphics 118, Classical Civilization 103, Music 31, Art 15 Economics 9, Political Science 2, social Science 2, Sociology 1. Freshmen are re quired to take English 1-2, Social Science 1-2, a foreign language, and a science course, with the fifth course a free elective.
