YOUNG CLASSES HOLD LATER REUNIONS
December 1940

A NEW DEPARTURE in Dartmouth class reunions will be inaugurated next June when the four youngest reuning classes (1921, 1936, 1931, 1936) will gather in Hanover during the week-end following Commencement instead of during the traditional graduation week-end. These four reunions will be the culmination of the week-long Hanover Holiday, for which many alumni, including reuners, will return to Dartmouth on Monday, June 17, for a full week of faculty lectures, picnics, golf, and varied informal, entertainments.

First among reasons for the deferment of these reunions is the ever-mounting congestion throughout the village during the Commencement period. After careful consideration by a committee representing the four classes involved, the Alumni Council, and by officers of the College, the new plan was determined upon—in view of the increasing discomfort to alumni, guests, students and their parents which the crowded conditions of previous Com- fnencements had caused. Overtaxed room- ing and eating facilities have been less able to absorb the thousands who converged upon Hanover each year with the mini- mum of comfort and service which visitors might expect.

Under the new plan, everything will be done by College authorities and by class reunion committees to make the later reunion week-end attractive, active and entertaining for alumni and their wives. Class barbecues, picnics and dinners, informal dances, golfing, tennis, swimming and other diversions will combine to form a freer and more intimate reunion program than was possible before. President and Mrs. Hopkins will give an informal reception and luncheon on Saturday, June 21, to which all alumni and their wives are invited.

Many members of these young reuning classes are expected to return to Hanover for the full week of Hanover Holiday which begins Monday, June 17, enjoying the Holiday lectures and entertainments as a full week's vacation, ending with their reunions which start Friday, June 21, and continue through the week-end. The annual Hanover Holiday is in charge of Professor Herbert W. Hill and will, as usual, include a series of lectures by faculty members on a wide range of subjects.
