THE DEPARTMENT of Art and Archaeology announced during February the further gift to Dartmouth College of modern paintings, drawings and prints by Mr. and Mrs. Preston Harrison of Los Angeles, Calif. Gifts from time to time during the past two years have made the Harrison Collection one of broad range and unusual interest, complementing the gift of American art which Mrs. John D. Rockefeller Jr. made to the College in 1935.

The Harrison Collection now contains 32 interesting and unusual items within the wide range of modern painting from the late 19th century to the present day. It includes five oil paintings, fifteen watercolors, four drawings, and eight prints. Among the American and foreign artists represented are Maximilian Luce, Paul Signac, Mary Cassatt, Jean-Louis Forain, William Chase, Maurice Prendergast, Andre Derain, Jules Pascin, Andre Lhote, Georges Capon, Marcel Mouillot, George Bellows, Per Krohg, John Costigan, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, and Walt Kuhn. The works of these artists form a valuable body of study material for the students of the Art department and members of the College community.
