A new Dartmouth tradition has taken shape this year a banquet for senior honors students. Sponsored by a grant from the Braitmayer Foundation of Marion, Mass., the event was the brainchild of former College Vice President and current visiting professor of English Ruth Adams. All together, some 171 seniors and their 112 faculty mentors joined President McLaughlin and Dean Hans Penner for dinner in Alumni Hall. The distinguished '83s, a majority of whom were honors candidates writing senior theses, included the Senior Fellows and 20 students admitted to Phi Beta Kappa following their junior year. Featured speaker for the affair was Prof. Charles T. Wood of the history department. His lecture, "When are Degrees Honoris Causa?bristled with wit, humor, and intelligence. A most felicitous conjunction, one might say a well-in- formed speaker addressing an appreciative and very well-informed audience.
