ONCE AGAIN the Manchester Association has broken an attendance record. Saturday noon, December 28 at the Rice-Varick, 101 alumni, undergraduates, prospective students, and fathers of students, gathered for the annual holiday luncheon. There was a spread of 70 years in the classes represented, ranging from Attorney William J. Starr '84 to Benjamin P. Burpee Jr. (son of Dr. Ben Burpee '09) prospective 1954.

President Win Wadleigh '23 was toastmaster and early in the program turned the meeting over to Bob Marcotte '41, who did an excellent job as chairman of the undergraduate section. Reports and comments on Hanover activities were made by the following: Arnie Bartlett '41, a star member of the Dartmouth Players; Dick Burns '42, regular left fielder on Jeff Tesreau's baseball nine; Lloyd Fishman '41, ranking hammer thrower, track team; and Bob Hickey '42, Big Green football tackle. Charlie McLane '41, captain and top performer of the ski team, was prevented from attending by a meet at Lake Placid.

Variety was added to the prevailing liveliness by remarks of Gus Zitrides '39, now assistant Cornell football coach, and some pithy observations by Professor Bancroft Brown of the Mathematics Department.

A resolution was unanimously adopted to send to Earl Blaik a letter expressing the appreciation felt by all members of the Manchester Association to him and his staff for the constructive contributions they have made in several ways to the Dartmouth tradition. To him were expressed the cordial best wishes of the group for his success at West Point.

The atmosphere of the surroundings was considerably enhanced by the use of banners on the 4 walls, each depicting an undergraduate class. So well liked was this innovation that it will be used on such occasions in the future.

As the 1940 association year ended so auspiciously, we look back over one of the most successful periods in its sixty-year history and look forward to an equal or even better 1941.
