During the months since reunion that this column has been emanating from the Avery's kitchen, there has been a tendency for me to cull through news items and put into print only parts dealing with matters of professional or occupational interest. Marriages, births, divorces, and extracurricular activities have taken a back seat to private practices, vice presidents, and assistant professorships. So, for this last column before the summer sets in, we present what's happening as you say it's happening - without a heavy editorial hatchet deciding what's most important about our lives.
Kent Salisbury: "Have had a good year jelling our cardiology practice in Asheville. Have been selected by the 45 Rotary Clubs representing Western North Carolina to participate with three other non-Rotarians and one Rotarian in a group study exchange program visiting India for the month of January. Should be fun. The four Salisbury daughters are growing fast - hopefully heading for Dartmouth someday."
Peter Wolfe: "I will be returning to New York shortly with Jane and four children to run international operations division of the Service Management Group of Citibank N.A. We've spent last two-and-a-half years in London."
Rich Bloch: "Just a note to inform you of a new arrival on March 27, 1978 - eight-pound Michael Low Bloch. My wife Susan is taking a short leave of absence from the Washington law firm of Wilmer, Cutler and Pickering for about six weeks, or until Michael can throw a forward pass, whichever is sooner."
Grace Shaul: "Steve is presently in the throes of enlarging his medical partnership to seven fellows, all internal medicine, some with subspecialties. The bank also holds the mortgage to the new building they'll be moving into. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the Shaul household has added a new member. Kirby O'Sullivan Shaul was born May 26, 1977. Brother Creighton, two-and-a-half, is reluctant to share the spotlight."
Maxine Orosz: "After graduation from Dartmouth, Don returned to the West Coast and entered Boalt Hall (Berkeley's School of Law, University of California). Hearing that he'd passed the bar, Don took off for a year's travels throughout the world - roughing it, a la backpack. Back home in Glendale, Calif., Don joined a large law firm to gain experience. In 1972 he went into private practice, specializing in family law.
"In September 1976 we were married. My maiden name is Maxine Mulvihill - a graduate of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana, and Indiania University at Bloomington. I'm a talent coordinator for National Broadcasting Company in Burbank.
"In June 1977 Don moved into his own law offices in a professional building he built in Glendale. We're both travel addicts and have been to Haiti and Morocco in the last couple years. I look forward to Don's taking me to see Hanover one of these summers!"
Joel Feldman: "I am in practice as a plastic surgeon at the Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Mass. I am also an instructor in surgery (plastic) at Harvard Medical School, and teach at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Shriners' Burn Institute. My wife Diane and I live in Belmont, Mass., with sons Brad, age ten, and Jeffry, age seven."
John Davenport: "I'll be starting a new job in July '78 as assistant professor of neurology at U. Missouri in Columbia, my first real position. Up to now I have been in training or the military. Wife Sandy (DMS '66) will be assistant professor of child health (pediatrics). Daughters Kristen, seven, Stephanie, five, and Amy, three, are watching Dartmouth coeducation policies closely. Sorry guys!"
Brad Gerrish: "Beginning July 1978, with my family will* be taking a years' sabbatical leave from my family medical practice here in Snohomish. The intent of this time off is to allow time to fulfill our personal Christian commitment to a mission-medical type of service. However, for family reasons, I wish to spend this year in New Hampshire, Maine, or ; Vermont, so as to be near my parents (living in Meivin Village on Lake Winnepesaukee, N.H.). As yet I do not have any specific project nailed down and would appreciate any suggestions and ideas any classmates might offer." /
Nancy Hanson: "The business manager will get a note off because the boss never will. Harry, known locally as Roger, is in his fifth year of practicing orthopedic surgery in this area. His office is in South Orange and he uses mainly the New Jersey Orthopedic Hospital in Orange. Sometimes he uses St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston.
"His dad left the practice in June 1976 and he took in one new associate that summer, and a second this past summer. He and his newest associate are researching new developments in total joint replacements. He was named an assistant clinical professor at the New Jersey School of Medicine and Dentistry this fall.
"His extra-curricular activities involve being chairman of the Every Member Canvass of our church, chairman of Christian's Cub Scout Pack, and team doctor for our local high school's football team.
"Our children are getting older, better, and more fun each year. Sonja is now 11 and into tap and jazz dancing. Christian, nine, is into tropical fish, guinea pigs, dogs, and Cub Scouts. Inga, six, is into first grade. Hooray! I am still the director and teacher of our fouryear-old class in our church's nursery school. I am on the board of trustees of Planned Parenthood - Essex County, and do the bookkeeping for and help to manage Roger's office.
"We have a busy, happy live with summer visits to Cape Cod and ski trips to New Hampshire. We still own our own six acres in Hartford, Vt., where someday - maybe... We are looking forward to our next Dartmouth reunion - our children had such a good time that they frequently ask us when we're going again!"
Since the news bin is again depleted, you can expect us to start some gimmicky but earnest endeavor this summer to induce you to write in your stories.
