BILL CUNNINGHAM '19, sports columnist with the Boston Post for the past twenty years, transferred to The BostonHerald on March 17 to begin a new career as syndicated columnist and roving reporter of the Westbrook Pegler type. The change in jobs was made with more fanfare than has probably ever attended a similar shift. Neal O'Hara interviewed Bill over a wide radio hook-up on Sunday, March 16, and in the following morning's issue of the Herald lead stories by William E. Mullins and Sports Editor Burt Whitman '11 made official announcement of Bill's new assignment. That afternoon the Boston Traveler welcomed him to the Herald-Traveler family with further stories by Sports Editor Arthur Siegel and George Carens.
Bill's journalistic career, which has brought him national fame, began shortly after he received his Dartmouth degree in 1920. Whileonhis way to Mexico he stopped off in Texas and landed a job as cub reporter on the Dallas News. The following fall he had a special assignment from the BostonPost to cover the Boston College-Baylor football game, and his story made such a hit that he was invited to join the Post sports staff. His association with that New England daily has continued until now.
