Alumni Tribute to President Hopkins
July 1941

AT THE ANNUAL MEETING of the General A Alumni Association during Commencement week-end, tribute to President Hopkins upon the completion of 25 years as head of the College was formally paid by the rousing adoption of the following resolution;

RESOLVED THAT the Alumni Association of Dartmouth College hereby makes record:

That this one hundred and seventy-second year Commencement marks the completion of the twenty-fifth year of the presidency of Ernest Martin Hopkins: a quarter of a century of service in the Wheelock succession;

That in this administration the educational standards and accomplishments of the College have been signally advanced;

That the unity of all departments of the institution has, under tactful and effective guidance, been outstanding;

That the ever-increasing support of the institution, both by its immediate constituency and by the public at large, has been stimulatingly evidenced by the growth of plant and equipment;

That the College has enjoyed the prestige which results from having as its leader one whose views upon the education and social problems of the day are awaited with public eagerness, whose well-conceived conclusions, cogently expressed, are widely effective factors in shaping American opinion;

That as undergraduates and as alumni the sons of the College have enjoyed in their chief officer a companionship with an inspiring personality, a wise and effective leader, an understanding friend, a character increasingly endearing because of its unaffected simplicity, a man to whom affection flows as readily as does admiration and respect;

That in the present social crisis, with its potential effects upon the liberal college, our college has at its head a man of the vision, good sense, decision, courage and capacity for effective action to compel the confidence of all of us;

That we express our continuing gratitude and profound appreciation for all that the President's leadership has meant to us and our college;

That we pledge to Ernest Martin Hopkins our loyal support in whatever measures may be found expedient to the future welfare of Dartmouth College and wish for him health, strength and happiness in this critical period of his great leadership.
