TEN NEW FACULTY appointments for the academic year 1942-43 have been announced by President Hopkins, bringing to 23 the total number of additions for the year. Most of these new staff members assumed their teaching duties with the start of the fall semester on September 14.
The men named are Louis O. Foster, Professor of Accounting and Finance, Tuck School; Frederick J. Knights, Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering, Thayer School; Worcester Warren, Assistant Professor of Education; Charles S. Maurice, Assistant Professor of Geology; Samuel H. Bartley, Assistant Professor of Research in Physiological Optics, Eye Institute; Nickerson Rogers '31, Research Fellow in Physiological Optics, Eye Institute; James B. Thompson Jr. '42, Instructor in Geology; Rolla M. Tryon Jr., Instructor in Botany; and Ralph H. Twining Jr. '42, Assistant in Chemistry.
Professor Foster graduated from the University of Illinois in 1923, received his M.S. in accounting in the following year, and in 1928 received his Ph.D. in economics.
Professor Knights, who will teach industrial engineering in both Tuck and Thayer Schools, received his B. S. degree from the University of Nebraska in 1928 and his M.B.A. from Northwestern in 1938. He has taught at both Alabama Polytechnic Institute and Northwestern.
Professor Minnich, who was superintendent of construction for the new Ledyard Bridge in Hanover, attended Pennsylvania Military Academy for two years before graduating from Dartmouth in 1927. He received the C.E. degree from Thayer School in 1929 and since then has been with various contracting firms and has served as Bridge Engineer for the New Hampshire State Highway Department.
Professor Warren, who was superintendent of schools in Bridgeport, Conn., from 1929 to 1941, graduated from Knox College in 1912. He received his M.A. at the University of lowa in 1921 and his Ph.D. from Yale in 1942.
Professor Maurice, who has come to Dartmouth from the University of Tennessee, graduated from Princeton in 1926. He received his Master's degree from North Carolina in 1931, and his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins in 1936.
Professor Bartley, who is joining the research staff of the Eye Institute, received his Master's degree from the University of Kansas in 1928 and his Ph.D. degree in 1931.
Dr. Tryon graduated from the University of Chicago in 1937. He received the Ph.M. degree from Wisconsin in 1938, his M. A. from Harvard in 1940, and his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1941.
