Petition to the Wilderness
October 1942 Willis T. Sparhawk '93

0 Wilderness do take me in! I tire of city smoke and din, Whose pavements with their sweltering heat Force me to seek that cool retreat Where woods and waterfalls do meet, And tinkling brooks their roundelay Surrounded by your charms do play. Your coolness soothes me night and day, And, far away, joys to prolong, I hear the linnet's gracious song, Serene, harmonious, a part Of Wild-wood's magic healing art. O Wilderness, make haste to say: 'Who soonest comes may longer stay!"
