We are very grateful to Chester C. Butts, of the Class of 1917, who kindly forwarded the following report about Lt. Brainard T. Macomber.
Lt. Brainard T. Macomber of Marble- head, Mass., received a Navy Cross on September 14, 1942, at San Diego, California, for heroic and distinguished service against Japanese forces in the Pacific.
Lt. Macomber, leader of a two-plane sec- tion providing a fighter escort for torpedo planes in an attack on a Japanese carrier, was praised for "skillfully and aggressively countering enemy fighter opposition, thus allowing our torpedo planes to press home their attack which resulted in the sinking of the enemy vessel."
Lieutenant Macomber is the husband of the former Elizabeth Davis Chamberlin, daughter of Lafayette and Mrs. Chamber- lin of Winchester. We congratulate Lt. Ma- comber, Mrs. Macomber, Lafayette and Mrs. Chamberlin on the award of this richly deserved honor.
Stanley Neill, husband of the former Priscilla Chamberlin is also a Lieutenant (j.g.) in the Navy.
Lafayette and Mrs. Chamberlin take the palm in having their two sons Lieutenants in the Navy. What other 'O5 men have sons or sons-in-law in the armed forces?
Royal Parkinson, Personnel Director of the American Optical Company, reports that he spent his vacation this last summer in the hospital, but that as a result of the skillful care of Dr. Thacher Worthen, 'O7, he is now "149% normal."
Jake Atwood's boy, Robert, who was graduated from Dartmouth in June, is now working in Royal's department at the American Optical Company at South- bridge, Mass.
Anne Elizabeth Haskell, daughter of Harold and Mrs. Haskell of Nashua, was graduated in June from Lasell Junior Col- lege and entered the University of New Hampshire as a junior in October.
The request in the October Magazine for news about 'O5 men and their families drew only one response. Around the tenth of each month your Secretary appreciates the plight of the Hebrews in Egypt in try- ing to make bricks without straw. May the next harvest on November 10 be bountiful. Best wishes to all for Thanksgiving.
