THE COAST GUARD needs men for officer training who have graduated from college with an accredited Bachelor's Degree. Since it is a small and specialized branch, requirements for officers are exacting. Candidates must have passed one course in college mathematics and one course specifically in trigonometry, which may have been taken either in college or in high school.
Coast Guard applicants must be in good physical condition, and between the ages of 20 and go; must have minimum vision of 20/ go each eye, uncorrected; and must be at least 5 feet and 5 inches tall.
The oldest military service in the United States, the Coast Guard has built up a reputation as a highly successful policing organization along the seacoasts of this country. Now, in time of war, it has gone into active military service, protecting not only domestic shore-lines, but also more far flung channels.
