Six Faculty Members Who Retire This Month

FRANCIS J. NEEF '23h, Professor of German and Director of the Personnel Bureau, has served Dartmouth for 43 years. Graduate of Chicago in 1905, he has headed the Personnel Bureau since 1927 and in that post has directed the College's coordinated program of scholarships, loans and employment.

WM. STUART MESSER '23h, Daniel Webster Professor of the Latin Language and Literature, Columbia '05, came to Dartmouth in 1919. Among his wartime responsibilities he was managing chairman of the Committee on Defense Instruction and chairman of the Committee on Academic Adjustments.

PETER S. DOW, Thayer '11, Professor of Graphics and Engineering and also Professor of Engineering Drawing at the Thayer School, is retiring voluntarily at 65. Member of the class of 1909 at Tennessee, he became a Dartmouth instructor 41 years ago and has been a full professor since 1925.

RAYMOND W. JONES '24h, Professor of German and Instructor in Russian, has taught at Dartmouth for 42 years and has been full professor since 1924. As early as 1918 he began giving courses in Russian and at present is senior member of the staff of the new Department of Russian Civilization.

REES H. BOWEN '26h, Professor of Sociology, came to Dartmouth 30 yearsago after taking a B.D. degree at Yale Divinity School. Native of Wales, hehas related his omnivorous reading to courses dealing with contemporarycivilization. He was the original editor of the "Hanover Browsing" column.

HARRY R. WELLMAN '07, Professor of Marketing and Personnel Officer at Tuck School, officially retires this month after being on leave for the past year. Written up by "Collier's" three years ago as "Dartmouth's Stream- lined Mr. Chips," he quit as a business executive to join the faculty in 1919.
