ANNOUNCEMENT HAS JUST been made of the appointment of Bernard Brodie, instructor in Political Science, to the position of Official War Historian for the United States Navy. This brings the total number of faculty and staff members in military or government service to 63. Dr. Brodie, whose recent book A Layman'sGuide to Naval Strategy has been adopted by the Navy as an official text in Naval R.O.T.C. courses, will leave to take up his new duties about December x.

Four other leaves have been granted within the last month to Rudolph T. Textor, Clinical Fellow in Physiological Op- tics; Arthur E. Jensen, assistant professor of English; Francis W. Gramlich, assistant professor of Philosophy; and W. Raymond Kendall, assistant professor of Music.

Professors Gramlich and Jensen will report to the Naval Reserve, the former as an ensign, and the latter as a lieutenant. Mr. Textor is an Aviation Cadet in Meteorology, AAF, while Prof. Kendall will take up full-time work as Music Coordinator for the National U.S.O.
