JOHN C. PINE '45 of River Forest, Ill., blind student who entered Dartmouth last fall with his Seeing Eye dog, was chosen president of the freshman class in elections held just before the Christmas recess. Five others elected to the Executive Council of the first-year class were Howard D. Brundage of East Orange, N. J.; John L. Carroll of Fremont, Ohio; Roy F. Duke Jr. of East Orange, N. J.; Morton H. Lewis of Newark, N. J.; and George S. Pulliam of Cranston, R. I.

Pine, who lost the sight of both eyes through accidents, easily follows the regular freshman course by means of student readers. A trained typist, he writes his own notes and themes and takes his examinations either orally or by typewritten answers to questions which are read to him. Pine's Seeing Eye guide, Bozo, is the only indication of his blindness as he strides rapidly across the campus or about the town.
