We had one of the best turnouts ever at the Alumni Dinner to give Joe Worthen. who is the president, a proper send-off. The following members of the class were present in addition to Joe: Clark Saville, Mike Farley, Allen Newton, Herb Hawes, Phil Chase, Art Swenson, Sandy Hooker, Dan Watson, Lynde Tucker, Harry Floyd, Bob Stone, Curt Hilliard, Cad Cummings, Dick Lord, Ralph Wight, Bob Holmes, Bob Burns, Ben Scully, Gordon Weinz, Louis Wright, Wally Ross. Art Swenson, Sandy Hooker and Dan Watson as usual were in good voice and entertained before the dinner and afterwards. The group also clustered around one table and had Dick Lord lead them in a cheer for '09 and Joe Worthen.
Phil Chase, we learn, is now New England representative of Insl-X, which is a synthetic rubber coating which is applied to metal to prevent corrosion. Due to priorities, Phil is sitting on top of the world at the present time with plenty to do.
We are sorry to learn that Harold Whitmore, 63 Aspen Road, Swampscott, has been laid up for two months. He is out again now, but is finding it necessary to be rather careful.
Freddie Carroll and Curt Sheldon were unable to attend the dinner due to the fact that they were attending the annual District Conference of the American Bankers Association in New York.
Harold Murchie, who, as you know, is Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of Maine, sent his regrets that he could not attend because of the fact that the court term was to open on the day of the dinner.
Harry Burroughs has been laid up since the latter part of November and reports it looks as though it will be a slow job for him to come back. We certainly missed Harry at the meeting, where he has always been a regular attendant.
George Adams reports that he has two boys in the midst of all the excitement in the Pacific, while his youngest boy is trying to get into Dartmouth as a freshman this fall.
Art Sporborg we learn has just been elected president of the Miami Beach Board of Realtors.
Phil Rose has just finished a marvelous job of building a church from nothing in three years. Phil is located at Glastonbury, Connecticut and lost his church during the hurricane. He convinced the small congregation up in the hills east of Hartford that if they would do what they could that greater Hartford would help them out. The result was that in a three-year period they raised $16,000 and the church became a reality. He sent most interesting pictures of the church and of the ceremony, but space does not permit of giving all the details.
Jim Hitchcock is now practising in Fitchburg where he is located at 61 Central Street.
Fred Batchellor is with the Worthington Pump & Machinery Company, Holyoke, Mass. and is living at the Hotel Essex in that city. Hazen Hibbard is at 3544 South Central Street, Kansas City, Mo. Harold Hall is located at 15 Sheridan Square, New York City. Albert Hill is at 158 Grace Road, West Hartford, Conn.
Art Buxton reports from Cincinnati that his business is wonderful. He recently ran into Ken Root in Chicago and visited with him until the small hours of the morning, then went on to New York and spent some time with Hal Prescott. He reports that if he puts on any more weight he expects to have broken arches.
A long letter from Moffatt describing his work in India shows that he is busier than ever traveling thousands of miles a week. The amount of travel business which they are doing through his office, he states, has increased three times over the pre-war record due to the fact that missionaries from Syria, Iran, Iraq and even Turkey have been coming through Bombay. His son Marston, who worked this summer in the Pratt 8c Whitney factory as a research worker, is now taking up Aeronautical Engineering at Harvard.
I am sorry to report that from now on we have been asked to reduce our space for class notes by one-third so that you cannot expect to get quite as much information as in the past. Do not hesitate to send in what you have, however, and we will condense it as much as possible.
