THE BARRETT CUP, awarded annually by popular vote of the three upper classes to the senior thought most likely to become a factor in the outside world, was presented to Charles Milton Pearson of Madison, Minn., after Wet Down ceremonies on Friday, April 24. Four other candidates nominated for this highest undergraduate honor were William Edgar Housel of Milton, Pa.; Benjamin Reynolds Page of Pelham, N. Y.; Joseph Cornwall Palamountain Jr. of Lebanon, N. H.; and Edwin Forbes Self of San Diego, Calif.

Through the gift of the late John Barrett '89, founder of the Pan-American Union, a gold medal is awarded each year to "that member of the senior class whom the members of the three upper classes of the College choose as giving the greatest promise of becoming a factor in the outside world through his strength of character and qualities of leadership, record of scholarship and broad achievement, and his influence among his fellows."

Pearson, a Senior Fellow and Phi Beta Kappa scholar, captained both the football and basketball teams this year. He was a delegate of the College to the fifth Tri-College Conference which was held in Hanover last month and will deliver the Valedictory Address at Commencement. He was president of his class his first three years and was foreman of the Undergraduate Fire Squad last year. As a freshman he received the William S. Churchill Prize and since has been awarded a Justin H. Smith Fund Scholarship and a Morrill Allen Gallagher Scholarship. He is a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, Vigilantes, Green Key, Palaeopitus, and Casque and Gauntlet. He prepared for Dartmouth at Dawson (Minn.) High School and for his first three years in College had a scholastic average of 3.26. His induction into the Naval Air Corps by Lieut. Commander Edward Brewer of the Flight Selection Board was the surprise feature of the Winter Sports Banquet at the Hanover Inn on April 8.
