EDITORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS FROM TWO UNDERGRADUATES are features of this issue. William J. Mitchel '42, station manager of the Dartmouth Broadcasting System and a member of the Dartmouth Radio Council, describes the background and beginnings of radio on the Dartmouth campus. Completing a year of organization, with the headaches caused by "bugs" in the system and with numerous successes to its credit, DBS has fully earned the respect of the College community as an exceptionally promising new field of student interest. The article begins on page 11.

One of the leading members of The Dartmouth editorial board this year was Edward J. Rasmussen '42. In the Undergraduate Chair, page 23, he notes trends and changes in student life and attitudes that have characterized past months in Hanover.

War Program Takes Hold, page 14, is a summary of most recent developments in relating the work of the College to the war. Plans for the summer term of full semester length are included and the principal branches of military service open to undergraduates are described.

We are indebted to James L. Farley '42 for his continued editorial help in writing the Big Green Teams section of this issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. Other departments will be found this month as follows: Gradus Ad Parnassian, page 9; Hanover Browsing, page 15: Books by Dartmouth Men, page 16; CollegeNews, page 18; '40 Pilot Comes Through DesperateJungle Flight, page 24; With the DOC, page 25; and Nexus from the Alumni Clubs andClasses, page 29.

The Cover George Higgins' photograph on the cover shows a scene in the Dartmouth Broadcasting Studio on the top floor of Robinson Hall. The speaker facing microphone is John H. Shaw '43 who has been elected station manager of DBS for next year. In the control booth are, left to right, James D. Wells '43, William J. Mitchel '42. and William A. Fead '44.
