William K. Shaughnessy '33, economic statistician who had been stationed in San Francisco for the last three years as an assistant regional director for the Social Security Board, was given a Japanese headache this spring. He was put in administrative charge of the registra- tion of all Japanese in San Francisco and the disposal of their property. When the government first decided to move the Japanese inland from the West Coast, Mr. Shaughnessy worked in conjunction with Army authorities as a migratory procedure expert until he was given the San Francisco assignment.

A Columbia University Master's degree in sociology, work in the School of Public Relations of Brookings Institute, and jobs with the Census Bureau and the Social Se- curity Board were Mr. Shaughnessy's preparation for being a Japanese moving-man extraordinary.
