Out into the snow we went again, this time to the Hanover golf course. There we found the Dean of Dartmouth coaches, Tommy Keane. In terms of service Tommy has been at Dartmouth longer than any other coach now active - ever since 1922.
As this is written, his 1962 squad includes five sophomores. Dave McCollum, a senior from Glen Ellyn, Ill., is number one, while behind him are Dick Leukart, Dick Payne and George Linck, all sophomores; Jim Wendell, a junior; and Garth Gregory and Spencer Hirshberg, two more sophomores. Others still in contention for playing positions are Joe Shannon, Ace Eaton, Steve Bloom, Kent Graham, Tom Rand, Ray Norton, and Bill Gerchick.
Last year's golf team finished with a 5-7 record, and this year's team is already 2-2. North Carolina beat the Indian golfers twice during their spring road trip, while the Green defeated Washington and Lee 6-3 and George Washington 5-4. Of the eight opponents remaining on the schedule, all but one, Springfield, will be met on the Hanover course.
Casting a forlorn look at the falling snow, Coach Keane commented that if the weathel had remained good, the team could have put in some much-needed practice. The southern trip gave his men a chance to sharpen their golf and now regular practice was needed to keep the team as a whole in shape for the season ahead.
