Henry Salomons' death is a loss to the class and the college, but is really a release from a long and incapacitating illness. He will be missed at reunions and class gatherings, for he was a most regular attendant. For one who was with us in college only about a year, he certainly absorbed more class and Dartmouth spirit than most men in their entire college course. Somewhat quiet and reserved, we will all remember his very evident pleasure, and happy smile, in reuning with old classmates.

Steve Stevens Jr. is with the First Amphibious Marine Corps, somewhere in the South Pacific. His last letter indicates that things are moving out there, and that the big push is getting started. He says he is well and happy, and that they are very comfortable, considering.

Some notes from the secretary's desk:—Tommie Remsen is busy as usual, for besides being Assistant Manager of the Corrugated Box Co., he also serves as chairman of the Washington County Civil Service Commission, and is on the War Labor Board for Upper New York. Tom Jr. is practicing law and is Assistant County Clerk, and Anne is in her junior year at Smith "Butter" Butterfield is now serving as national director for New England for the Save the Children Federation, Inc., with his headquarters at Whitman, Mass. He reports the birth of a granddaughter, Susan, and also the birth of a grandson, Bruce Allan Butterfield, whom he hopes will be in Hanover in the future, to carry on the Butterfield name, which has been connected with Dartmouth for many years, Eddie Gibbons keeps about the same, some good days, and some not so good; but the spirit of optimism and good cheer pervading this jovial Hinghamite certainly gives faith and courage to others. . . . .Jim Kimball reports a good summer, and good crops from his farm, having raised about 85 per cent of all the food for the Kimball table Chan Cox and Jim recently visited Henry Taylor and Johnnie Ward at Swampscott, and Chan says Jim's golf is as good as ever Andy Wood, who has been in Washington doing some special work for the Navy, has been at home in Middleboro for a few weeks, having some necessary surgery done, but hopes to be back in the nation's capital soon Rush Newcomb retired from his position as treasurer of the Bell Telephone Laboratories, Inc., the last of June, on account of the age limit. Rush had been with them for a great many years.... .Walter Young has asked to be retired as superintendent of schools of Worcester. Walter was appointed to the faculty of South High School in 1903, in 1912 became assistant superintendent, and for the past twenty years has served as superintendent. He has been instrumental in rebuilding and improving Worcester's school plant, and has been an ardent advocate of physical education in the schools.
