DARTMOUTH NIGHT in Hanover this year took the form of an informal reception by President and Mrs. Hopkins in Thayer Hall. The event on the night of November 5, opening day of the new term and eve of President Hopkins' 66th birthday, was attended by an unexpectedly large throng of more than a thousand persons. Invitations had been extended to civilian students, Dartmouth men in the V-12 Unit, members of the faculty and their families, alumni of the community and their families, and officers of the V-12 staff and their families.

Captain Cummings, commanding officer of the Dartmouth V-12 Unit, was in the receiving line with President and Mr. Hopkins. An orchestra, assembled by Prof. Maurice F. Longhurst, played for the occasion, and a Glee Club group also participated in the musical portion of the program.

The telegraphic messages of other years were missing at the 1943 celebration of Dartmouth Night, but a number of letters were received by President Hopkins from alumni groups scattered throughout the world.
